Forest School and Outdoor Learning
At Mile Oak we firmly believe the school grounds are far more than just something you walk through to get into the building. We are a silver eco school and believe firmly that the outdoors is a fertile place for children to learn.
Forest School
Our Level 3 qualified Forest School leader takes regular sessions with small groups of children in our designated Forest school camp area- which although still within the grounds feels like a wild and remote place. Here children learn about fire lighting, woodland skills and cook on an open fire. They build camps, craft strange tree creatures, listen to tall tales and generally get to grips with the great outdoors.
Reception Outdoor Learning
Outdoor learning in Reception at Mile Oak School provides opportunities for pupils to learn and develop in all areas of EYFS curriculum. It allows our youngest pupils to move freely, explore the environment and natural world, take risks and develop their creativity on a large scale. It gives them the freedom to use their whole bodies to express themselves and progress their learning. The characteristics of effective learning, playing and exploring, active learning and creating and thinking critically, underpin all teaching and learning that happens in the outdoor environment.
