Art and DT

Art

THINK BIG means providing all pupils with a meaningful and enriched art curriculum full of exciting and engaging opportunities to experiment, reflect and grow as artists. At Mile Oak we aim to provide a high quality art education which gives pupils the skills, concepts and knowledge to enable them to express their ideas and experiences through a variety of mediums. Pupils study, compare and evaluate art and artists from various cultures, and times and make connections to their own work and the work of their peers. Creating independent and reflective artists enrich all areas of the curriculum; inspiring pupils to take risks, make thoughtful judgements and become actively involved in shaping their environment and community.

Art Planning Cycle

This year, Art will be a focus subject so now is the time for me to share the basic structure of how an art unit should be planned:

Design and Technology (DT)

The teaching of Design and Technology (D.T) at Mile Oak is committed to delivering a curriculum accessible to all, which provides the broadest possible range of opportunities for our children. One which will inspire pupils to become self-motivated and confident learners, who can work independently and as part of a team. Our aim is to ensure every learner will develop technical and practical competencies and encourage problem solving; not being afraid of making mistakes. In all areas of DT, the children are encouraged to consider the effectiveness of their designs and requirements of the product. Every child will have the opportunity to extend their understanding, experience and application in the use of Design and Technology, both in and outside of school enabling them to THINK BIG!
