Geography

Our children at Mile Oak are encouraged to THINK BIG in Geography and experience a high-quality geography education. This inspires a curiosity and fascination about the word, it’s diverse places, people, resources, natural and human environments and the Earth’s key physical and human processes. They also have the opportunity to develop their geographical skills further through the use of our outstanding school grounds and local area.
Some of the trips that the children get immersed into here at Mile Oak, enable the children to have first hand experiences of the Geography around them. Some of these trips include visits to Tilgate Park in Year 2, where the children explore the physical and human features there and compare these with those in Mile Oak. A visit to Frog Firle Farm in Year 6 allows the children to complete a river study on the River Cuckmere. A visit to Seven Sister’s Country Park allows the children in Year 4 to explore the physical and human features surrounding this area and also allows for great opportunities to develop their fieldwork skills too. Trips to Brighton seafront also allow the children to develop their knowledge about the city that they live in and they also provide great opportunities for them to develop their map skills too.
The local area also provides many opportunities for the children to explore the physical and human features and landscapes of Mile Oak and the surrounding environment, The Downs, local parks and amenities. This provides great opportunities for the children to ask and answer questions about the areas studied and explore these first hand.
